{interior styling-project one} what is an interior stylist?

"...doing what I love, which is interiors styling. What is that? Well, I create beautiful spaces with beautiful things for commercial/advertising photography or for real life." Deb McLean

Interior stylists work with a client to 'conceptualise and articulate a desired outcome' (www.toembellish.com.au).  They transform spaces in order to make a statement, evoke and emotional response, create and ambiance, entice an action or transport you to another time or place.  This is achieved through ongoing research and implementation of style and trends, and consideration of the principles of design.

Interior stylists are found working in many industries.  The role of an interior stylist involves communicating with the client; developing a concept; sourcing decor, props and tradesmen; and implementing the final design.

the role of the interior designer, decorator and stylist

The role of interior designer, decorator and stylist are similar in that they each work with clients, and use the elements and principles of design to develop a brief, create a concept and deliver the desired outcome.

Although interior designers and decorators can carry out the role of an interior stylist, an interior designer is qualified to, and specialises in, the structural and functional layout of interiors, while interior decorators specialise in the selection of hard and soft furnishings and finishes.

Interior stylists specialise in creating compositions, using their understanding of the elements and principles of design to bring together those details that transform a space from ordinary to extraordinary.
